through the Todd School PTA. Most committees host events that you can volunteer for as
they happen, or you can volunteer to be a committee member and be involved from the
planning stages. Committee volunteer signups via signup genius will begin a few weeks
before the start of school. Sign-up information will be included in the weekly PTA
Newsletter which is sent out every Sunday during the school year. If you have any
questions, please feel free to reach out to the PTA chairs, Stephanie Conover and Rebecca
Isbell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here is a list of the committees that are always in need of volunteers throughout the year.
Assemblies and Trips: Field trips and assemblies are an important part of our children’s
education. We need 1-2 representatives per grade to work with the teachers and
coordinate all grade-specific assemblies and field trips. Teachers will select the programs
and trips based on their curriculum. The PTA coordinator will collect paperwork and
invoices from the teachers and submit them for payment. All grade level representatives
will have the opportunity to chaperone one class trip or assembly.
Author Visits: Each school year, the Todd PTA sponsors four or more author or illustrator
visits to the school. These renowned authors/illustrators speak with the children about
their writing/creative process as well as answer student questions and sign books.
Volunteers work with the Library Media Center staff to organize these programs and
activities that encourage students’ appreciation of reading and writing. Duties include
helping on the day of the event including set-up and clean-up as well as assisting
beforehand with event preparation.
Book Fair: Every fall, the PTA holds a Scholastic Book Fair at Todd where students,
families and the community can purchase books while supporting the PTA and Todd
School. Committee members will help plan, advertise, set up, run, and break down the
Book Fair. If you are interested in assisting your child’s class during the fair, a separate
sign-up will be distributed a few weeks before the fair.
Class Parent: Each class has a head class parent and an assistant class parent. Class
parent assignments will be made in September once class lists are available. If there are
more than 2 volunteers per class, a lottery system will be used to select the class parent.
If you are chosen as a class parent, you will receive an email in the fall. Class parent
responsibilities are located on the PTA website at www.briarcliffpta.org/todd-school-ptaclass-
Community Outreach: This committee coordinates service projects for the entire school
such as the Pajama Program and Souper Bowl Food Drive just to name a few. Volunteers
are needed to assist with collecting donations and may be needed occasionally to work
with Fourth and Fifth Graders during their lunch and recess periods to create advertising
for school community service initiatives.
Garden Club: This committee provides hands-on workshops during recess to actively
engage in fun while cultivating the earth, weeding, watering, planting, sowing and
exploring nature with the goal of supplementing Todd School’s experiential learning
opportunities. Volunteers help plan for and assist children with monthly garden projects in
the fall and spring for students in Grades 2 through 5.
Helping Hands: Help various committee chairs when extra volunteers are needed. Your
name will be added to a list of people that will be called as the need arises.
Hospitality: Provide food and beverage donations as well as help set up and clean up at
meetings, parent teas, and receptions. Coordinate, decorate for and work at staff holiday
breakfast and staff appreciation lunch.
Lost & Found: Help take care of all lost & found items throughout the year including
donating unclaimed items.
Multicultural Awareness: Volunteers of this committee work together to plan events
promoting multicultural awareness such as the multicultural fair.
Pizza Day: One Friday a month the PTA sponsors Pizza Day – a popular event with the
students as they get NY style pizza. Volunteers sign-up to come in for one pizza day a year
to serve pizza, drinks, and snacks.
School Pictures: Pictures are taken over a two-day period at the beginning of the school
year. Volunteers are needed to work in 2-3 hour shifts during the time when their child’s
class is photographed. Help with the children, assist the photographers, arrange any
chairs, and other set-up. Help keep the children orderly and the sessions moving along.
School Store: The School Store is open one to two Tuesdays a month during recess.
School supplies and fun novelties are sold. School store volunteers work at the store
assisting students in Grades 1 through 5 select and purchase their merchandise as well as
escort them to and from the School Store.
Spirit Committee: The committee plans fun activities and events for the Todd School
community such as a school family picnic.
Wellness: The Wellness Committee is committed to a three-fold approach to promoting
overall health and wellbeing by focusing on an “Eat, Play, Sleep” mantra. There will be
one keystone event in early spring that brings families together at Todd for a night of
fitness fun. We also hope to work with Todd Staff and other PTA Committees to host topic
talks and smaller events throughout the year for parents and kids to get more information
about sleep, nutrition and anything else we think our community wants to learn more
about. We want the idea of wellness to be integrated into all aspects of life at Todd school
for a happier, healthier student body and community at large.
Yearbook: Work with Fifth Grade students to produce the Todd Yearbook. Volunteers
may be asked to help with content, layout, and editing. Volunteers are also needed at
each grade level to photograph grade-specific activities.
